Yeah between the G5, B12, SEC, Notre Dame- those 8 hold a lot of power. Big Ten a lot more like those 8 than the ACC.

Big Ten doesn’t want to get behind the SEC. The Pac 12 is firmly aligned with the Alliance. Did G5, B12, the SEC, and ND form a political alliance? I haven’t heard the news.

We will see what’s going to happen. But the progress (or lack thereof) so far is a no suprise to me.

And how strong is your vaunted Alliance when one weak member (ACC) has just put out a statement that is, as quo said "diametrically opposed", to the stance of the other weak member (PAC)? One of you is likely due a spanking from Daddy (B1G).

The G5, B12, SEC & ND may not have formed a paper thin political alliance, but they don't need to hold press conferences about an illusory organization. Instead they actually support similar positions at the voting table on the playoff expansion issue.

The PAC doesn’t oppose the 5-1-2 with the autobids, does it? I am pretty sure the BIG is in agreement with the ACC position. As you said, a weak member cannot issue a such strong statement without a strong member’s approval.

We had already talked about the doom’s day scenario. I still believe the Allaince only mini playoff is much more attractive than the other alternative if the breakup happens. Thus I still think the Alliance has more leverage.

No, ND and the ACC are joined at the hip, status quo, until 2036 or the ACC is picked apart.



ND is contractually bound to the ACC and it would only consider a move to another conference that 1) paid enough $$ to cover the legal costs to leave the ACC and 2) agreed to take ND without football.

Since no such conference likely exists, the shotgun marriage (as is) will continue between the ACC and ND.

Status quo between the ACC and ND until the contracts are done.

After that?

If there are two super conferences in ten years or so, ND has to decide whether to opt out of a student/employee model or join the Big Ten.

Under no scenario will ND join the ACC in football.

It makes no business sense to surrender independence for less money and be further tied up contractually with the ACC.

I’m sure the ACC and Notre Dame aren’t springing surprises on one another. The ACC has been hesitant to commit to major playoff expansion from the get-go.

This is also not a desperate ploy to “make” Notre Dame join. The people in charge know that isn’t realistic.

Also let’s be real about two super conferences. Those won’t be conferences anymore, they’d be leagues with conferences within them. The point of a conference is having teams play one another on a regular basis. That won’t be the case if there are only two.

Look, I don't even like the idea of conferences (let alone super conferences) at all.

I have never had any allegiance in sixty years to an artificial construct called a "conference" and never will.

None of them.

I view all of them with equal dislike and negativity. That is my college sports worldview.

But, the writing is on the wall. The ACC in its present form cannot survive the money disparity between it and the SEC/Big Ten.

The Big Ten and SEC are going to carve it up like a Thanksgiving turkey around 2031 or so.

So, the likely result is two super conferences called the Big Ten and the SEC (two entities that I have despised and rooted against my entire lifetime).

The fact that they are really separate conferences in leagues will not matter, money will.

Cash is the only thing that really matters in this super conference scenario.

ND will have to decide whether to join them or opt out and finally de-emphasize football in favor of academics like long time ND president Father Ted Hesburgh and others dreamed about.

Well, it has to do with marketing and brand appeal, Terry. The ACC name is too valuable to kill off from a marketing standpoint. The records and such will live on under some umbrella of a league. The core of the ACC will remain intact and continue on.

ESPN is about to release a doc about the ACC tournament. It has its own network. Why would ESPN kill its own property? No, it will combine some of the ACC with a few teams from the SEC and call it the ACC division or something silly. Or maybe FSU and Miami reclaim their former glory under NIL and as Swagger says, they back up the Brinks truck and everything stays the same.

The Big East never died, it lived on. The ACC has been around a lot longer than the BE. I appreciate your independent spirit and I admire Notre Dame for never joining the Big Ten. Well, I guess hockey doesn’t count.
