Most people care more about their historic and/or regional rivals, which happen to be southern. Wonder why? Maybe because the schools we root for are in the south? Well jeez, I guess that makes some sense.

I would rather Carolina play one SEC team each season (Georgia, Tennessee, Vandy, or Florida preferably), one semi-local FCS school from the old SoCon days, and then a couple academic peers from east of the Mississippi. I don’t mind playing Pitt, but I’d rather see Wake and Clemson on the schedule more than them.

Maybe if the rest of these conferences allowed the ACC to shitcan divisions and maximize the TV package we’d play a little nicer?

That would make sense IF the other conferences had assembled somewhere to gleefully design nonsensical divisions for the ACC and then imposed them. I agree the divisions are as bad as if that happened, but that isn't what happened. The ACC has imposed nonsensical, uninteresting and hard to remember divisions on ITSELF. Further, the ACC is either unwilling or unable to learn the lesson that their Alliance better, the B1G did, and change them. Maybe if all the ACC schools were in the AAU they'd be smart enough to fix this?

Well we certainly know that South Carolina will never make into the AAU unless the expand from 64 to about 120. Carolina, Duke, and UVa were smart enough to write the football divisions into the bylaws because those divisions suited their tastes. The original divisional format had to do several things, not the least of which was keep Maryland tied to the south. That was done with MD/NC State/WF, Clemson/BC/FSU.

Adding Syracuse to the Atlantic did not do one damn think for MD. They wanted Pitt. They were told they were getting Syracuse. They left. Then the disparity was made worse by replacing MD with Louisville instead of moving Pitt into the Atlantic. This meant the Coastal could avoid a trip to the Northeast every year.

As I have often said, there is little wrong with the ACC that could not be fixed by kicking out Duke.Kick out Duke and you no longer have the three blue boys screwing everyone else in the league. Of course that's what the powerful programs do, they run their conferences to benefit themselves.

1) What does the Gamecocks’ academic reputation have to do with the ACC or playoff expansion?
2) In what world would Duke leaving the ACC help the conference? Duke isn’t leaving without Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill isn’t leaving without Virginia, and Virginia isn’t leaving without Georgia Tech. If those four join the B1G, every other ACC school except Clemson and FSU, who’d get ESPN-induced SEC invites, will be SOL. The Big XII’s “Biennial Battle of the Baptists on the Banks of Brazos” between Baylor and Wake would be amusing though.
