Exactly! Good coaching on Murray State's part. Williams wasn't getting doodly done in the first half. He was getting eaten up by our smaller, quicker players. So, he sat the bench to start the second half as Murray went small ball, driving to the bucket and scoring almost at will. After getting a good lead, they brought Williams back in who was posting up on Sule and manhandling him, backing him in under the bucket and scoring easily. Williams scored zero points in the first half, 11 in the second half.
We have a ways to go, but I have all the confidence in the world that By will get us there. As has been the case for many years, the missing piece of the puzzle is a good big man.
I know it's been said you can't get a good (or even serviceable) big man below the P7 level, but...
Last 3 games
KSU- 6'11" 8-12 FG, 16 pts
WSU- 6'9" 9-13 FG, 19 pts
MSU- 6"10" 6-10 FG, 13 pts
All opponents were mid majors-just sayin'.
Food for thought for the future.
Yeah there aren't a ton of them out there for the mid-majors but it's not impossible either. Will probably be much more likely after at least another year or two of improvement. I'm sure it doesn't help that for any of those guys in the area who don't get the P7 offer they want, they have so many other solid options like VCU, GMU, ODU.
