As a longtime lurker and very infrequent poster, I still come here as it's really the only place to get a high level of info/insight into Rice sports. I love the recruiting and game threads (when they're focused on the product on the field).

Still, it's no surprise that folks have abandoned this site (and Rice athletics writ large) over the past 5+ years. The big 3 sports have generally been terrible. When the programs are this bad, the focus naturally shifts from the games themselves to the administration, which is less fun, less rewarding, and (unfortunately) less likely to change.

The "blame the fans" line gets trotted out every so often, but as someone who isn't an athlete/donor/name/etc., I feel like it's a wild notion that I'm expected to give time and money to the athletic department, then have a Coke and a smile and shut the hell up lol. Besides, the fact that I even know this website exists puts me in the top 1% of Rice fans!

Bottom line: win and people will return. That's really it. For myself (and I'm probably not alone in this), sports are entertainment and when they stop being entertaining, I'm gonna look elsewhere.
