It's not uncommon. Recall during Willy Roy's days it was the one and only time Notre Dame was willing to face the Huskies -- in an exhibition.

If by chance they lose it isn't "official." Is that right? They can explain it away as a "practice match?" Or does it allow them to get in an extra match without it counting toward some limit? Don't know, so asking.

yes generally exhibition matches don't count, thus the phrase....exhibition

Yeah I got that. I was asking why they are scheduled that way to begin with instead of as regular matches ... risk of losing, extra practice, e.g.? Maybe could have worded it better.
