The decision does actually seem to be mutual. He was interviewing for other jobs already

If he strikes out on those other jobs, I wonder if we'd have a shot at him. He's clearly looking to move up, so he could be a one-and-done Todd Graham type, but where we are right now, I'd take that.

He makes $825k, almost half of what Rice is paying Bloom. He might take it for the increase in pay alone.

He was able to recruit anyone he wanted. The standards are not high at all. Holtz loved bringing in jucos and p5 transfers. If he couldn't get it done with access to so much talent, I doubt he'd have much success at Rice.
