Was. He was also at best a below average recruiter. The rules were changed to neuter legal below the waist blocks more than 3 yards downfield. Paul Johnson is one of the best X and O coaches in the country bar none. He also needs a total overhaul on image and recruiting to compete at the P5 level consistently after the rules were changed to try to further NERF the option. Spending 3 years in the wilderness because you dumped an option roster makes for a pretty awful time to then immediately go back to the option.

Teams w/4* & 5* players but bad coaching (Texas & Southern Cal) didn’t win. Teams without 4* & 5* players but good coaching (Wake & Cincy) won.

Paul Johnson was creative & showed GA Tech could be competitive against anyone without a stacked roster.

Time to give him his dues… He is a HOF Coach and the Only coach since Bobby Dodd to post multiple 11 win seasons in his tenure!
