Not sure what the buyout provisions are. He is certainly worth more.
Sure I personally would like to extend him but what will be the cost of the new contract? Who would assist in paying him something more competitive.
If this team finishes less than .500 overall this year and doesn't go bowling it will be cold water on a possible contract extension. My guess is this may come up after this season. I agree with some of the posters on this board that at some point in time more progress in the football program as defined by winning the MAC West going to a better bowl and a conference championship would be great. Lets recall Murphy was a winning coach and then stagnated in his last two years.
On the other hand if this team surpasses expectations this year and wins 8 games, the MAC West then CC could move on to a bigger job and paycheck.
I'd love to see CC stay at EMU but if he isn't successful in 21 and 22 we and he may move on and if he is he may move on.
Certainly would look to past and current assistants under CC to keep this culture going.
"In his recently signed extension, obtained by The News through a Freedom of Information Act request, Creighton will earn $450,000 in 2017, the second-to-last year of his original contract, then earn an additional $10,000 each year, topping out at $500,000 in 2022."

500k is peanuts
Yes and no. One thing folks need to remember that the cost of living in Ypsilanti is moderate. The price of housing is 50% of say in the D.C. suburbs. A small fraction of places like the West Coast, mid-Atlantic, etc. etc.
If I had a salary (or celery as a friend pronounces it) of 500K I'd be on Easy Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197
CC never comes across as like a pro athlete who signs a big contract and buys a 100K car and house with 10 bedroom and 8 baths (and jacuzzi).
I have been told by a few sources several times that CC and his family really like the greater Ann Arbor Ypsi metro area. I don't think CC would move based on $$$ alone but because he enjoys a challenge. He has slowly but successfully moved up the coaching ladder. The only question is how big of a coach does he want to be and where at? Success at EMU doesn't look like success at Notre Dame. And different coaches define success in different ways. That's my way of saying CC may want to stay at EMU if things can be worked out. I agree he is not a mercenary.
I love hearing CC likes the area, the school and the team but I am always suspicious of the next program looking for someone to turn them around like a Uconn or Temple. Let's hope Weatherbee steps up to the table and offers him the extension soon to keep the buyout higher and wolves at bay. CC deserves it for what he has done and the types of players he has gotten here.
