DeSantis, Florida Republicans Lead Response To Freedom Protests Erupting In Cuba

Quote:Florida Republicans were among the most vocal proponents of the freedom protests that erupted in Cuba over the weekend.

Citizens of the island nation demanded an end to the communist dictatorship, under which they suffer poverty and a lack of freedom.

Numerous videos that were posted online showing the protests had “suddenly disappeared” as government censors appeared to take action to stop the movement from growing. “The people are dying of hunger!” one woman shouted, “Our children are dying of hunger!” Other chants included “We want freedom” and “We want vaccines.”

“Florida supports the people of Cuba as they take to the streets against the tyrannical regime in Havana,” Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis wrote on Twitter. “The Cuban dictatorship has repressed the people of Cuba for decades & is now trying to silence those who have the courage to speak out against its disastrous policies.”

“For over 6 decades, the despotic Castro regime in Cuba has deprived its people of life and economic liberty,” Florida Republican Lt. Governor Jeanette Nunez said. “The images we are seeing from across the island are an outcry as shortages of basic necessities have become commonplace. As a Cuban-American, I stand in solidarity with the freedom-seeking people of Cuba calling for the end of the communist dictatorship. The Castro’s continued repression won’t keep the Cuban people from peacefully demanding their God-given rights. As Cubans risk everything in protest, Florida will continue to support out Cuban brothers and sisters who are fighting for freedom, democracy, and human rights.”

“I am asking @POTUS @SecBlinken to call on members of the Cuban military to not fire on their own people,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) wrote on Twitter. “The incompetent communist party of #Cuba cannot feed or protect the people from the virus. Now those in the military must defend the people not the communist party.”

Miami Republican Mayor Francis Suarez wrote on Twitter: “The Cuban regime’s military police are shooting at unarmed Cuban protestors fighting for freedom. 60 years of communism, cruelty, & oppression cannot last any longer! We are imploring the USA to take action as we peacefully demonstrate on the streets of Miami.”

“The courageous people of Cuba took to the streets determined to regain their freedom and demand the end of the dictatorship,” Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), the state’s former governor, tweeted. “@RaulCastro_Ruz & @DiazCanelB the message is clear: The people of Cuba are not afraid, your time is up!”

“The Biden administration should quickly denounce any detention or violence toward peaceful protestors in Cuba,” he added. “America & every freedom-loving nation must fully support the brave Cuban people in their calls for liberty & human dignity. The world is watching.”

Cruz Responds To Protests In Cuba: ‘Communist Cuban Regime Will Be Consigned To Dustbin Of History’

Quote:Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), whose family was persecuted by the communist Cuban dictatorship before fleeing to America, responded to the widespread freedom protests that erupted in Cuba on Sunday by saying that the communist regime would be “consigned to the dustbin of history.”

Cubans took to the street in rarely seen demonstrations to protest the impoverished conditions of the island, their lack of freedom under the far-left Marxist regime, and did so while chanting “Liberty” and “Freedom.”

“The Communist Cuban regime will be consigned to the dustbin of history,” Cruz wrote on Twitter. “It has brutalized & denied freedom to generations of Cubans, and forced my family & so many others to flee. The American people stand squarely with the men & women of Cuba and their noble fight for liberty.”

During the recent presidential election, Cruz took aim at socialist Bernie Sanders, who was running for president, tweeting: “In 1980s, Bernie Sanders effusively praised Fidel Castro & Soviet Union. My family was imprisoned & tortured in communist Cuba—my Tia Sonia endured unspeakable abuse from Castro’s thugs. Why is apologizing for communist tyranny now mainstream in Dem Party?”

Cruz’s office added:

After being tortured and imprisoned in Cuba, Ted’s father, Rafael, fled to the United States to attend the University of Texas at Austin in 1957. He then started a small business in the oil and gas industry. Today, Ted’s father is a pastor in Dallas.

Cruz noted that as he grew up, his father would say to him, “When we faced oppression in Cuba, I had a place to flee to. If we lose our freedom here, where do we go?”

Biden* Admin Blasted For Claiming Cubans Are Protesting ‘COVID Cases,’ Other Issues: ‘So Disrespectful’

Quote:Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration was slammed on Sunday after it claimed that the people of Cuba were protesting “rising COVID cases/deaths” and other medical issues on the island.

Cubans took to the street in rarely seen demonstrations to protest the impoverished conditions of the island, their lack of freedom under the far-left Marxist regime, and did so while chanting “Liberty” and “Freedom” and waving an American flag.

Despite this, Julie Chung, Acting Assistant Secretary for U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, said that the protests were centered around the coronavirus pandemic.

“Peaceful protests are growing in #Cuba as the Cuban people exercise their right to peaceful assembly to express concern about rising COVID cases/deaths & medicine shortages,” Chung tweeted. “We commend the numerous efforts of the Cuban people mobilizing donations to help neighbors in need.”

The administration faced instant backlash over the statement with many noting that the protests were aimed against the communist dictatorship.

“The Cuban people have been denied the right to ‘peaceful assembly’ for over 60 years,” conservative activist Heydi Geroy tweeted. “This is so disrespectful in so many levels to the thousands of Cubans who have faced the firing squad for just trying to peacefully protest! @WHAAsstSecty have you been living under a rock?!”

“I was raised in Communist Cuba. I know what oppression, hunger, censorship, and indoctrination looks like,” Geroy said in a separate tweet from last year. “This is the ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD where you can be and do whatever you want, no matter your background or the color of your skin.”

Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) tweeted: “The Biden Admin is totally deranged on #Cuba policy. This isn’t some pesky protest over COVID vaccines. This is about opposing a brutal communist regime, freeing political prisoners, and demanding free elections. If you can’t make that distinction, you are very bad at your job.”

Alberto Miguel Fernandez, retired U.S. diplomat, tweeted: “What a dull, lifeless, dumb tweet by #Biden @StateDept official. People in Cuba aren’t calling for COVID shots or medicine. They are calling for Freedom.”

Kevin Marino Cabrera, Republican strategist, tweeted: “This is absurd, tone deaf and insulting. ‘Exercising their right to peaceful assembly’, there are NO RIGHTS in Cuba. In case you haven’t heard, it’s an oppressive dictatorship! They are not protesting for more PCR tests and ventilators, they want FREEDOM!”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) tweeted: “No they’re chanting LIBERTAD. Stop playing cover for communists and support the Cuban people. My god. Why is that so hard for you.”

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted: “This is a ridiculous tweet from @StateDept People in #Cuba are protesting 62 years of socialism, lies, tyranny & misery not ‘expressing concern about rising COVID cases/deaths’ Why is it so hard for @potus & the people in his administration to say that?”

Even Bill Kristol criticized the administration, writing: “The peaceful protestors in Cuba also seem to be asking for democracy and freedom. It would be good if the U.S. government said that and supported them.”

Dems can’t admit that a socialist or communist countries are NOT a workers paradise. Might undermine their message.

Communist Cuba Begins Cracking Down On Freedom Protesters, Internet Service Cut In Areas

Quote:The communist Cuban dictatorial regime began cracking down on pro-freedom protesters on Sunday that stormed the island nation’s streets. Numerous arrests were reported as widespread internet outages spread across the nation.

Cubans took to the street in rarely seen demonstrations to protest the impoverished conditions of the island, their lack of freedom under the far-left Marxist regime, and did so while chanting “Liberty” and “Freedom” and waving an American flag.

The Washington Post reported:

José Miguel Vivanco, director of Human Rights Watch’s Americas division, said his group had received reports that at least 20 people had been arrested. He added that the organization had received reports of violence being used by Cuban forces, a claim echoed by social media users sharing videos of wounded protesters.

“This is pretty massive,” Vivanco said. “My sense is that this is a combination of social unrest based on a lack of freedoms, and covid, and economic conditions. The lack of access to electricity. The blackouts. … People are screaming for freedom.”

“As demonstrators sought to broadcast the protest live with their cellphones through social media, Cuba’s authorities cut internet service on multiple occasions on Sunday,” The Wall Street Journal reported. “Kentik, a U.S.-based network monitoring company, reported countrywide internet outages.”

NBC 6 added, “In several protest areas, internet service on cell phones has been cut off and news from the island is being interrupted.”

Psaki Refuses to Acknowledge the Cuban People's Call for Freedom

Quote:There’s something pretty amazing going on in Cuba today, as we reported here and here.

It’s pretty fair to call it an uprising in Cuba, at this point, against the Communist government, with thousands in the street upending police cars — and police joining the protesters. It’s something that may not have been seen since 1959, with the massive numbers of people.

What the Cuban people need now is support in their quest for freedom and the world standing together saying: we wouldn’t stand for the government firing on or being violent with the people.

Republicans have come out in support of the Cuban people.

But Joe Biden has been silent and said nothing, lending no support for the Cuban people in their fight for freedom against the Communist dictators.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki appeared on Medhi Hasan’s show. Now, because Hasan is a leftist, you don’t hear it phrased as people demanding freedom from Communism; it’s phrased as people being upset about the pandemic or wanting medicines/vaccines.

Hasan asked Psaki if she was going to comment on what was happening in Cuba. What was the U.S. government’s advice to the Cuban government? Hasan asked her. She gave a terrible answer.

Now, what she should have done is warn them not to harm the people and/or call out the Communist government. Instead she said, “I don’t know that the government is waiting for our advice.” No, they’re not, which is why you should give it, rather than act so impotently. You should be warning them not to hurt the people.

Psaki then echoed the false call that this is just about the economy, food, and medicine. Where are her words supporting their call for freedom? Recognizing they’re calling for the end to the Communist dictatorship? She seems complexly oblivious to what they’re actually asking for. Her words of support for that are completely missing in action.

There are Cubans waving the American flag in the name of freedom, and this is the response that they get from the spokesperson for the American president? That is such a sad response, that she’s completely refusing to acknowledge what it’s about.

When this was happening in Hong Kong, President Donald Trump stood with the people, supporting their fight. They held up pictures of him — and the American flag — in response.

Psaki’s answer shows them Joe Biden is completely AWOL for the Cuban people now.
