Welcome to Entitled America.
Are you going to college for Academics or Athletics? Scrap all college sports for ***** sake and make it about nothing more than higher education.
IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE, THEYRE GOING TO WANT A GLASS OF MILK.
**** all these so called "Student Athletes".
Mod Edit; don’t bypass the profanity filter.
Go watch Division 3. Virginia Wesleyan and CNU are right down the road. No athletic scholarships. But also no eight-to-nine figure stadiums with seatbacks and luxury suites, no coaches making more money than everyone else at the school, no media deals, almost no merchandising or televised games. Just you and your ass in a bleacher with maybe 1,000 of your closest friends.
If you're OK with that, good for you. But most of the complainers are unrepently in the "capitalism for me, amateurism for thee" camp.
I will say that the fact that you consider student-athletes mice and not integral parts of your college sports experience as a supporter speaks volumes.
My youngest son will be playing junior college soccer this fall. I am paying for everything, including his equipment. But I am happy to do so because it inspires him to do well in school because he has to maintain his grades in order to play. The team plays in a very nice high school stadium because they don’t have their own field. So where do we sign up for all this NIL $$?
That’s the real kick in the pants. It’s going to be the guys in the high revenue sports who are on a full ride plus that will get most of the money. But hopefully your son can transfer to a D1 soccer power (ODU?) and get a partial ride with some NIL to supplement.
At least the junior college guys don't have to worry about stupid infractions like monetizing a YouTube channel that nobody cares about until they make it to the big leagues.
If the NCAA really wants to prevent student athletes from getting paid, all they have to do is reinstate the "freshmen don't play" rule. Kids who are only in college for the chance to play for the pros would either go straight to the NFL/NBA or the NBA's developmental league. This would weed out those who want to go to college and those who don't.
