The Pioneer League plays NCAA Division I football and has an automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs. I have no problem with an FCS program particularly out "west" as Southern Utah is to schedule a fellow 'west of the Mississippi' FCS program for a home-and-home.

The Pioneer's San Diego owns postseason wins over Cal Poly and Northern Arizona the last few years

St. Thomas is east of the Mississippi. Admittedly by about 100 yards, but UST is not western in any reasonable sense.
