RE: Rice football recruiting - class of 2022
Another pretty solid transfer for the Owls, and this one is a local kid. Tyson Thompson, a 5-9 slot receiver from Houston Baptist (originally Spring Klein HS). Thompson had 57 receptions for 562 yards (team leader in both categories) and two TD's for a poor HBU team last year. He also was their primary returner, and had to be among the nation's leaders in kickoff return yardage (854!). He averaged almost 26 yards a return on kickoffs (with 1 TD), and also had a punt return for a touchdown. HBU was 0-11 last year, but Thompson was one of their bright spots. Western Kentucky had phenomenal success with their HBU transfers in 2021. One can only hope we will see more of that type of production from Thompson over the next couple of seasons.

Again, as I mentioned in the depth chart post the other day, we have some really strong units for 2022. The receiver crew is one such group. Although there is a possibility because of the date, Thompson will fall into the category of a traditional transfer and may have to sit out a year?

(eta - NM - as mentioned below - he was in the portal prior to the May 1st cutoff).
