Either way, I would be somewhat disappointed if the Ivy League leaves D1 hockey. Cornell, Harvard, and Yale have all had solid teams over the last couple decades.

I don’t think anyone is advocating that the Ivy leaving D1 for hockey. The postulation is that they’d pull out of the ECAC and sponsor hockey in-house, creating a new autobid in the process since they Ivy isn’t a single sport league.

Thanks for the clarification. I took "in house" to mean they were leaving D1 and moving to a club type program.

If this comes to pass then it is bad news for Quinnipiac as the quality of their conference goes down dramatically. Sure they will likely get the auto-bid but recruiting should take a hit as the best players will not consider the ECAC.

Rumor is that Quinnipiac has essentially had a standing offer to hockey east. So it's likely they would go that direction if the Ivy League schools actually did this.

Don't see the Ivies doing that since there is already an Ivy League Champion within the ECAC framework and other than Q, most of the conference shares a similar philosophy to the Ivies.

It’s a dumb set up though—they essentially have enough members to have 2 6-member leagues and 2 autobids, but instead they have only 1 and the naming of an Ivy League champ is really a hollow a meaningless process if that Ivy League team didn’t also win the ECAC.

Getting two bids and having a scheduling alliance between the 2 leagues makes a lot more sense.
