A new conference will eventually start, as more schools will be adding hockey at some point. I'm not predicting a timeline on this either - could be 10 years from now for all I know. Bottom line, if we are guessing the hypothetical question of what conference Liberty would join if they hypothetically added hockey, I still think the most likely answer would be a new conference. Reason being that I can't see liberty adding hockey given where things stand today, but it would make sense for them to move to NCAA D1 if there were some additional programs added in the south/south east. These new programs, along with Liberty, would be able to start a new conference along with some of the independent programs that need a home, or a school like UAH, etc. Disclaimer - this isn't a prediction - it's the reasoning behind my answer to the hypothetical question.

ASU had a scheduling alliance with the B1G a couple of years ago. If ASU were to join the B1G Hockey it would give them 8 teams and could attract alumni who have moved to Arizona.

Currently you have the two Alaska schools, Lindenwood, Augustana, UAH, LIU, Stonehill, and Utica looking for a home. That is enough for another league.

Alternatively have the Ivies split off from ECAC and add Army and AFA.

That opens a couple of spots in AHA and ECAC.
