Nope—for the past 2 decades, the ACC has really struggled to get a 2nd (and sometimes a 1st) team into the top 10.

I did a look over the past few seasons and the at-larges in 5-1-2 were dispersed like this:

SEC 6
Big 10 6
Big 12 2
ND 2

I think the lions share of the extra 4 berths/yr would follow a similar pattern.



So, ND would have made the playoffs under a 5-1-2 the same amount of times as it did under the current four team format.

Right. 8th ranked 2015 ND just misses the playoff field.
