A 16 team CFP is out of the question for any number of reasons. One obvious one is the length of the season, which would require either that you play through exams as if they didn't count, and/or you compete more directly with the NFL playoffs. A second reason is that you would be adding some unattractive games at the expense of the traditional NY bowls and several secondary bowls like Capital One. So the net financial gain won't be as much as it would appear at first glance. And third, the risk to players' bodies (and their potential pro careers) is greatly increased.

The fact this group even mentions it is simply to say that everything is on the table at the start, and that they are approaching the questions with an open mind (even if they really aren't).
