I don't suppose UC is a high major program anymore. Salary range that is rumored to have been discussed with Martin is 1.1 to 1.5, which is about a million short of where the salary needs to be. These candidates are nobody that any "other" high major program would consider. Archie Miller? Bryce Drew? Frank Martin? The top assistant at Baylor, whatever his name is? If you are a serious Bearcat fan and thought you'd be cheering on a squad led by one of those guys this fall, it looks like the joke is going to be on you.

Minnesota just hired a Xavier assistant coach as their head coach.
UNC just hired their own assistant coach.
Boston College just hired the head coach from College of Charleston
Depaul just hired an assistant from Oregon
Iowa State just hired a coach who was 29-30 at UNLV
Texas Tech just hired their own assistnat coach.
Utah Just hired the Utah State head coach.

The elite programs can often pull from a different pool of candidates but UC's candidates are absolutely in line with where most high majors look.

There's also the fact that every university is bleeding this year.

Not just the AD, the whole university. Lower ticket revenue is the least of their problems. Donations are down due to the recession. Dorms are at half capacity (or less). And they spent tens of millions (at least) on technology for remote learning.


Even UNC is supposedly paying their new coach about $1 million.

No university is going to open their wallets this year for anyone unless they absolutely have to.
