UC basketball is in a sad state right now and turning it around is going to be a tough task for anyone. We won't know how this is going to work out for a couple of years but if it is possible to find a current head coach who has experience in resurrecting a program or has shown the ability to build one including assembling a staff, recruiting, and all the other things a head coach does would be my first choice if a coach like that is available.

John Beilein is available and very experienced in our region and apparently has been interested in several major jobs lately. Might even come at a discount depending upon the details of his Cavs contract. However, per a top insider, he's simply out of our price range.

The good news is some of our expert posters here think we're flush with cash or that paying a guy $5M to go away has no impact on the program. I sure hope our experts here are right and that money has no impact on who we hire and how much we pay his staff!

I think Beilein is a good coach but he's also older than Huggins who had his success with UC like 18 years ago. A school like Michigan might recruit itself but Cincinnati needs someone to get out and hustle and want to sit in crowded gyms watching AAU tournaments no one else is at. I'm sure he could assemble a staff, but I see that as being closer to a Tubberville situation than something that ultimately works out. Mack Brown is probably the only coach I can think of that went to a school around that age and had success.
