Almost as if he got the guys who were probably above MAC level but not quite high major. They held out for too long hoping for high majors while all the mid-majors filled up their rosters that they really had little choice but to come to EMU. And were probably better talent than the players the mid majors were able to get to commit earlier on.

So once the transfer pool shakes out, the best of those still available will be the ones that are too good to commit to us now.

Although Howard U. had problems with injuries and then Covid and the season shut down after either 4 or 5 games, they had picked up a 5-star recruit, Maker, in JULY.

Special case, to be sure, but recruits sign on throughout spring and summer. That end date for signing period has some legal ramifications but otherwise no big deal. Recruiting and signing doesn't end on the last day of spring signing period.

(the ramification is that signing AFTER the end date the LOI binds the school to athlete but not the athlete to the school. The player can sign a LOI on July 1 and 2 weeks later sign with a different school. Perfectly legal.)
