Well, my prediction of a quick rule change to "Nope" out the WAC loophole is now on the clock.
I don't know why the WAC loophole hasn't already been closed.
My guess, It was never both important and urgent before.
Quote:But the WAC-ASUN would have to get a further NCAA rule change to allow a football-only conference for FBS. Even if the WAC loophole isn't closed, they wouldn't currently be allowed to do this.
Yeah, there are a lot of moving parts here.
The WAC started talking about using this loophole as soon as they announced they were re-starting their football league almost two years ago. I do agree that nobody was aware of the existence of the loophole before that. But they've still had about 23 months to close the loophole.
There was a vague awareness of the loophole.
And the WAC and ASUN that started talking about this have lost (counting on fingers, SHSU, Lamar, New Mexico State from the WAC, Jacksonville State and Liberty from the ASUN) a bunch of the members that they kicked off this Zany Scheme with. Actually I think this all started with the ASUN commish coming up with a Zany Scheme to expand to 20 and split into 2 conferences using the continuity rule that isn't on the books anymore.
Since then, the ASUN and the WAC have each pretty much failed to put together an FCS league without leaning on each other like two exhausted boxers in the 11th round of a fight.
