There’s a fine line between stubborn and stupid. I think there’s a Remember the Titans quote about that. I don’t feel like google searching it.

Suffice it to say, Siddle went ride or die with his system. At this point, it appears three of his four tires are flat and he was too stubborn to pay for AAA. Now he’s on a desolate road in the middle of nowhere and he better pray he has the knowledge to get this **** fixed.

We will see. Remains to be seen who will be on the roster next year. Like I said, we'll see just how good a recruiter he is. If he's a good one, he can build this roster exactly like he wants. If nobody else leaves, here's where we are.

Returning:

Phillips(PG), Okauru(2), Harvey(3), Sims(4). Pretty much know what these guys bring to the table, and that's not a bad starting four, minus a center.

Incoming:

6'8" McGriff(5) - Can't be worse than we've had. Shot blocker with some energy.
6'5" White (G) - no idea, can't find much on hime
6'4" McCracken(G) - Looks pretty damned good. He had a 31 point, 21 rebound game and scored 43 points in a game this year, going 8-11 from three.
6'0 185lb Thomas(PG) - Also looks pretty damned good. Just won a state championship and is crazy aggressive.

That's 8 players on the roster with four available scholarships to go after two more big men and two guards.

I get that this "looks" bad, but I don't see this as a sky is falling situation. In fact, it may be addiition by subtraction. Now that i've taken some time to do research, i'm actually feeling pretty good about next year.

You show me a replacement capable of averaging 20ppg at D1 level, or a 6’7 Versatile player that can shoot lights out, I’ll give you addition by subtraction. It looks bad because it IS bad. We lost two guys that were almost certain to be in the starting 5 next year. Why should we be so confident in his recruits? Pridgen, gone. Steere, gone, Carr- never played a single game. Harvey, was solid. So he’s batting 25% on HIS guys. Just a blind leap of faith to think that he’s going to hit home runs on all the guys he has coming in? Yikes....

I like what I see coming in.

I liked Boggs, i've said so. I liked Pridgen, i've said so. I didn't like Bowen, or Dodd, or Tolefree and all three were taking up scholarships that are now open. I see McGriff as an upgrade over Dodd or Bowen. Maybe he won't be, but how much worse could he be? Pridgen was really good, but he isn't the three point shooter Siddle wants in his system. To me, the big loss is Boggs, because he could play the four in a Siddle system. But looking at who we re returning, we already have our 1-4 guys that were all starters this year. We have four guys coming in who all look pretty good and four scholarships for new guys.

Sorry, I just don't see this as the end of the world for next year.

He’s got some serious recruiting to do. He currently has 1 guy over 6’6 and it’s a freshman, and he lost his best undersized rebounder which also hurts in that system. Joe may have not been a great three point shooter but he was a great rebounder for his size which as you know is also something very important if you are going to roll small. Yes on paper what’s coming in does look good, but on paper it looked good last year too until 3 of 4 didn’t work out or left.
I’m really hoping that we didn’t hire the right guy at the wrong time. If he could have continued the same system Keatts had with the same guys, he’d have had the opportunity to miss a little and learn on the job. He doesn’t have that now. Today was bad even in his mind, he felt the need to put out a statement because of all the movement. In my time I’ve never seen a coach do that. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Training Wheels are off now and he’s about in a ditch !
