RE: Dixie State name change. So close, yet so far away.
All I know is that this name change Dixie St wants to do should've happened before they jump to D1. This school has seen their name change a few time as well as their mascots have been switched up too.

founded by the LDS then handed over to the Utah government

1911 St George Stake Academy
1916 Dixie Normal College
1923 Dixie Junior College
1952 1st nickname was "Rebels"
1956 mascot formed as a confederate solider
1970 Dixie College
1993 The school drops all use of the confederate flag
2000 Dixie State College
2005 got rid of Rodney the Rebel
2007 dropped the Rebels as a nickname
2007 it was approved for Dixie St to change their name to University of Utah - St. George but it fell through b/c of leadership at school
2009 they picked the Red Storm nickname
2009 mascot was a hawk then and a black bull
2013 Dixie State University
2016 new nickname Trailblazers

This school has known nothing but changes ever few years. It struggles with the idea of how bad is the work Dixie and what does it mean to us as a community. I would say that confederate monikers flags and other civil war stuff that went along with the school name have been dropped now and it's probably time to finish the job. They already have the name locked and ready to go from the 1st approval to change their name.
