Had Jordan Poole not enter the 2019 draft, they were seen as a top 5 team. Then he left and so did Belein. Juwan Howard's first season was more surprising due to his lack of experience as HC as opposed to lack of overall roster talent. Having Phil Martello there is sure a factor in their success, but Juwan is running things and is in on recruits which never considered Belein even before the issue which caused his NBA departure.

Well, we’ll see if Howard is a great head coach or another Kevin Ollie (former player that struck lightning early).
