How does JMU fit into the equation?

JMU would be the third G5 school in Virginia.

They can't really follow the Liberty block into FBS independence though because Liberty proved that the only reason they weren't fully compliant with the NCAA's requirements was that they couldn't get an FBS conference invitation despite good-faith efforts. It's been widely reported that the Sun Belt expressed interest in JMU and might have unofficially offered them an invitation but were told no thanks, so they can't really say that they couldn't join a conference. Unless they can convince the NCAA to drop the conference-invitation requirement, they're going to have a tough argument.

Pretty sure Liberty tried to buy their way into CUSA and the belt.

By good faith I meant they were actually trying to get in and not just going through the motions so they could make the case that they weren't given a fair opportunity.
