They wouldn’t give you the sense of satisfaction you deserve. They’d recall how their talks about getting into the conference were done by way of support from former, legacy members, like ECU for ODU and Tulane for Charlotte, now in the AAC. That was the CUSA they thought they were getting. Not the Sun Belt schools they wanted to overstep.

Well it’s true that ECU was in the conference when we joined and there was significantly more money but he is basically right, it was a football move to get us into FBS and was more attractive at the time then the Sun Belt. We likely could have gone to the A10 in 2012 with VCU instead and kept FB in CAAF. If we’re looking at the A10 now because things have changed or CUSA isn’t working out like we thought then it is what it is. Call it buyers remorse if you want but if the admin thinks they’re throwing good money after bad by staying then you can’t really blame us for reversing course. Every school has to act in what they think is in their best interest.

That’s kind of the issue...”what they think” and when it was considered, if at all. Going FBS is fine, and, between the two, I don’t blame ODU for doing anything other than getting chirpy for following a bad lead...which ECU was. As was a CUSA who clearly had no vision or cohesion; just schools climbing over reach other to get away from somewhere but desiring another place. A Big East/AAC feeder conference.

What I don’t understand is when all of these schools considered transitioning to FBS in the late 90’s through the 00’s, and they used CUSA as their benchmark. Now, you get schools who got there, and make it what it is...and they aren’t happy. Ridiculous.
