Proof? link?

ODU And Charlotte Rumor

I remember JPSchmack well from my days on the college sports info.com forum. It’s a flimsy claim though—no sources, just something seem on another message board.

Here is the real source of the "rumor." It's not a rumor, rather nothing more than a Harry Minium op-ed suggestion from 2018.

https://www.pilotonline.com/sports/colum...8d137.html

The idea is a football only conference (which is not allowed at FBS level if I read the NCAA ByLaws correctly) with independents UConn (he was expecting a Big East move back then), UMass, Liberty, James Madison, App State and Coastal Caroline.

He had crazy reassignment of conferences for these schools, such as CCU and App State moving basketball to the SoCon. But he did have Charlotte returning to the A10 along with ODU joining.

But it was just an Op-Ed throwing ideas of a journalist at the wall. That it got recycled after many retellings, morphing like a game of telephone into a rumor two years later with an unknown and no link trail is not surprising. This rumor is bunk.

We've seen this rumor passed around some message boards the last few days. I'm not saying it has legs but I don't think it's just based off that 2 year old opinion piece. I have no doubts that the ODU admin has been working the phones looking for conference alternatives, no idea if A10 would be receptive. I think it's safe to say that the A10 will not be expanding so it'd be contingent on someone leaving, whether Fordham or someone feeling the Covid budget crunch and realizing they can't compete in the A10 and downgrading or possibly someone getting pulled up to the BE or AAC which IMO seems less likely. Time will tell but it's definitely still only in the "internet rumor" realm for now. Earliest post I know of originated on the VCU message board.
