Just add it to the list of multiple deviations from the guidelines since they were updated 07-coffee3

And they want to know how/why the University has so many branding variations?? People in charge? Systems/procedures? Where is the accountability? Especially seeing all the controversy when the rebrand, refresh, or what every they are calling it now.

They just are making stuff up as they go...

Its because the marketing department didn't get full sign off from the athletics programs or the student athletes within those programs. Hey... they are the ones wearing this stuff... and honestly what Proudfoot trotted out there was atrocious so the athletes spoke up and they were able to bend the rules... which I think was necessary... remember those Letter Head looking hockey jerseys? Holy puke...

Proudfoot is a joke and its amazing he is still employed at WMU.

The mere fact that Proudfoot thought he would replace the Bronco head with the circle W is laughable -- especially after the Cotton Bowl appearance. Clearly no market research was done as Dan B had to do it for Proudfoot: https://www.westernherald.com/sports/art...0c026.html -- although, as an alumnus and on the athletics weekly email, I never received a single email about my opinion. So, I believe Dan's research was very much limited.

I will still contend Proudfoot made things worse versus doing research and uniting the brand -- as Brownandgoldlaker clearly pointed out. Montgomery needs to end this charade or go down as the worst president since Bailey.
Are you still hung up on the direction of the Bronco & the other slight changes they've made to the never official Ghost Bronco?

The Ghost Bronco was never the official "spirit mark". That was a 1 color variation modified (stretched) to fit the curvature of a football helmet and was to be used exclusively for football.

The changes to the "official" athletic mark were/are significant. They took a well thought out, unique 7 color image/design and dumbed it down to a 3 color illustration some aspiring high school graphic designer could have created.

Yet all these changes did nothing to enhance or improve our brand and the rational/premise for making these chances were not "outwardly" driven. It just forced the University to spend money they really don't have to update everything.

Now, we are just making more changes based on compromises (2 color athletic mark) and spending more money. Either stick with Tony Proudfoot vision or go back to redo the process, doing it the right way being driven by more OUTWARDLY market research.

But if there needs to be changes, then there also needs to be some accountability for the current situation. Proudfoot should be fired for gross incompetence, but that won't happen because Montgomery's fingerprints is all over this.

I absolutely agree.

I can't understand why Proudfoot would need to re-invent a logo that had been a proven winner with the WMU community. Early renditions of a completely reworked logo are well established. This design was terminated early in the process to the rendition we have now which is no where near the quality of the original. The quality of the previous logo matched that of peer institutions -- and that includes, imo, the beloved MSU Spartan logo.

The impact of the Bronco logo change goes well beyond the funding of it. Are decades of WMU alumni and fans are expected to change their gear in favor of a logo with lesser quality? Does the changing of a logo impact smaller donations to university through general gear or even license plates? In our case that answer is yes, it absolutely does impact it.

And finally, is our brand recognized nationally? It certainly was during our Cotton Bowl appearance. Is it recognized now?
