If the only changes they made were to the "academic mark" (the W), by cleaning up the artwork and maybe changing of the color gold, I would agree with the statement this is not a rebrand, but a technical exercise.

But where things go off the rails are all the un-necessary changes they made to the "athletic mark" (the Bronco) and these changes to this visual would be considered re-branding, as they have significant changes to WMU athletic brand identity. Just too many changes.

I could entertain a debate on what color should the gold be. Should it match the academic mark color? Is it ok if the colors of gold are different? Some research with focus groups would help you make these decisions.

One of my biggest issues is the tactical decision to make the "W" the primary visual in athletics. I'm fine with the idea of looking for additional opportunities to display the "W" through out athletics, but the "Bronco" should remain the primary visual of athletics.

If our own VP of Marketing and Communications doesn't understand the concept of rebranding, I would say he might not be qualified to lead the department.

The color of gold is up for debate and should have gone some sort of process because you essentially have two sets of alumni believing their shade of gold is correct.

I'm so done with this rebrand -- I will never wear anything produced by this department.
