There’s something to modern lifestyles with diets, healthcare, medication, and the effects of select substances, like tobacco and alcohol, but also other air-born substances like the smoke and fumes from factories, or the intensity of manual labor on the body.

You can still see what medications and booze can do to a body under physical stressors in pro wrestlers. They age horribly. I think steriods might be a big contributor to it, too.

Honestly, growing up, and this was the mid-late 90’s, but to beef up, kids on our high school football team used to load up on whatever nutrient/muscle-building stuff you could grab at GNC. Before there was a big push to get that crap off the shelves because it was pretty much steriods and other toxic stuff in there. A few of the guys who were on the o-line...not only got huge in high school (and I went to elementary and junior high with them, and lined up against them in middle school ball; they weren’t giants then), but were balding big time in their early 20’s and just looked old.
