I'm still scratching my head over Iowa State as well. The CFP slathered them with undeserved love. Someone noted that the CFP Chair is the AD at Iowa, but that's Iowa, not Iowa State. And Iowa State isn't even a big name. But somehow they were treated like Texas. Should be playing in the Alamo Bowl. Either Coastal or Indiana should have gotten the NY6 at-large.

The *only* thing that comes to my mind is that maybe the committee wanted to make sure the Big 12 got two teams in the NY6, as a way of saying "thanks" to them for deciding early to play and thus helping to save the season. If so, I can sort of buy that. Everyone owes the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Nebraska a debt of gratitude.
I see the Iowa State ranking as the committee rewarding the little P5 teams. See TCU, Washington State, Purdue, Iowa State etc can also make the playoffs...but not really.

Gotta make the 75% of the little p5 believe or they will turn on the committee (like they have for Costal Carolina, UCF and UC) and join in rattling some cages in the press.
