So apparently, the 3 finalists for the LSU head coaching job were Arizona coach Jay Johnson, Notre Dame coach Link Jarrett and East Carolina coach Cliff Godwin. Godwin interviewed on June 17 in Birmingham, Alabama, along with Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco. LSU went with Jay Johnson.

Godwin previously turned down the Miss. State job. According to Stephen Igoe on Hoist the Colours, "Miss. State showed up at his house and wanted to fly him into Starkville, interview him and likely offer him the job on campus. He was their top candidate. He declined to go. They still followed up with him multiple times and tried to entice him but he eventually just said no I’m out." Link
