...Isaac Robes, RHP/1B/3B, CyFair High School, Houston. His fastball velocity already up to 85, increasing 10 MPH in just the last year, and he's only a Freshman in high school now.

So...basically a 14-15 yo whose likely never played a varsity HS game. Not a good look. The "big" boys do this all the time and less than 25% ever end up on that campus. I prefer Rice not go down this road. Too much can change from 14-18.

Disagree. This seems to be the way of the world and if we don't get on-board with early commits then we are going to be left behind IMO.

To be clear, I wish there was a rule against "committing" this young but we can't afford to turn our nose up at it when everybody else is doing it (and it is within the rules).

Really good point. I guess my frustration is that it HAS come to this. Sadly, what happens in most cases is the kid commits early, does not improve to the level that the college thought (for that level, or school goes and gets a Juco or Transfer portal guy for that scholly), the school then withdraws offer and kid is left scrambling to find a place to play. Once a kid commits, in the baseball world, the other potential schools move on. I've seen this many times and it just sickens me what recruiting has come to these days. Rules need to be established that commit the school to the kid when the kid commits to the school. There is absolutely no downside on the college side to commit kids early. The downside is placed squarely on the kid/family if school decides to pull offer (for any reason). Make it binding and you will see this stop or at least greatly reduce the frequency.
