houston shut down its offense the last 10 mins because we were up 20... and that point he just want to kill clock and leave with a W..

grimes at one point in the last run attempt to run the offense and score quickly
and here is quote from the fans behind the bench:

Quote:Sampson yells at Grimes, and then turns to the bench and says, “You guys understand what a stupid-a** play that was by Quentin? We don’t need points, we need to run out clock.”

judging anything by second half stats in a blowout game is meaningless.....
sampson knew if he killed clock they wouldnt have had enough possessions to come back..we could have ran our regular offense, and potentially increased the lead, but if were failed we'd have given them enough possessions to come back

literally houston just beat a team most had as a elite 8 team, and you just proclaimed houston isnt good enough for the sweets 16??? why do you make such foolish outlandish claims. its a take that goes against what everyone believes, and you didnt need to make it. and at the end of the season people will say miggy is wrong again ifit isnt true.. you can make bad takes without making proclamations

You’re entitled to your opinion that Sampson didn’t run his offensive sets and let his players coast when they started the second half against Texas Tech, but I don’t see it that way and seriously doubt anyone else here who viewed the game shares your opinion.

As both HC’s and players alike are not slowing down in the third game of the season nor in any other game for that matter. HC’s and players don’t play bb with that mind-set nor is it a mind-set HC’s instill in players. Just the opposite is true- play your best all the time.

As for Texas Tech they didn’t look like a particularly good team this early in the season. Can see why given they have so many new players they are integrating into their system. McClung and others also missed wide open shots. Also, as I pointed out Texas Tech needed to play a pressure defense in the first half and didn’t. Would have changed whole.

Wouldn’t think any prognosticator who watched the second half and seeing Houston made but 3 two-point baskets in the second half would think Houston is an elite team. No one should. But you do so by making sham excuses for Houston’s poor play.

And given the fact that Houston has shot so poorly on two’s over 3 games at 42.1 percent, I would think that would give observers pause and take a fresh look at Houston. Houston should do well in conference play, and get away with that, but less likely to do so in the NCAA tournament where they’ll be facing better competition in the second round. You’re right in saying we won’t know till the NCAA tournament is played.

For me, there has been far better teams that have performed well so far throughout the nation that are far better than Houston is right now. If Houston proves to be a worthy team, hope they go far.
