I went to the Eastern/Western game last year. The field being so far away from the stands is the biggest issue (or is it just a weird angle?). The gray field is fun. I don't think the track is an issue.

One thought would be to shift the whole field toward the homestands side so the home fans are closer, and create even further distance from the visitors' side to separate them moreso than now. Create a significant homefield advantage.

I was told that moving the field, either north to south say 15 yards (as I prefer) or move it east to west say 5 - 10 yards, is expensive.

It would involve redoing the turf and track.

IF EMU athletics was rich, I would have liked to see:

1). Move the field say 10 - 15 yards to the south,

2). That requires, I believe, redoing the entire playing field (best done at one time when the turf needs replacing).

3). And also requires moving the track outside Rynearson.

4). Then build the SAPC also about 20 -25 yards further south to close off the north end like say Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

So to do them, one has the cost of redoing the playing field, which isn't cheap and building a new track which isn't cheap either. Would requiring seating, etc.

This image shows what EMU was faced with. Not easy... Because of the track, the options are limited.

Yeah...apart from something like a $100 million contribution, the ability to do what truly needs to be done to do it right is not there. I'd guess the whole thing could be done for less than $100 million, but it would likely take a gift that large to convince the Powers That Be to do it.
