Yes, in addition to the 9 years of high salary, Muschamp got an additional $6.3 million as UF buyout, and SC owes him $13 million.
The last 10 years have been a Boon for the Muschamp finances. For the teams he coached not so much.
Nine years of salary and $20m in buyouts, all for an overall record of 56 - 51.
That's not exactly how it works. Most buyouts are reduced when the salary of a new job is added. If the new salary doesn't add enough then the old buyout keeps it at a pre agreed upon level. So Muschamp may not have motivation, financially speaking, to take a head coaching job and if he takes an analyst's job with a network that salary won't count against him (unless the contract stipulates that). I can see him returning to Mack but not immediately, unless Mack pays him below the minimum that allows him to stick South Carolina for the full amount.
