My wife told me last night that I think the state of Washington made it so that if you do go to your families for Thanksgiving, you have to force quarantine for 14 days.
Unbelievable.
"Restrictive governors"? You mean governors who care about their people a little more than cannon fodder?
Goliath, I'm going to be very careful how I handle this, because I don't want this to spiral into a political conversation. But I'll just say this.
When I mean restrictive, I mean telling people they can't have Thanksgiving, can't have Christmas. If you have Thanksgiving you are forced to quarantine for 14 days. Don't you think that's a little far-fetched?
Regardless, governor's ought to be able to balance the risk to their economies and to their health of the public. That's the responsibility, it's a health line of all factors, not just coronavirus.
There were many horrible repercussions in third world countries where many families lost loved ones who died not from coronavirus in their country, but from the coronavirus shutdowns we had in America that put a pinch on their food sources and people starved to death. So their are real world economic problems that come from complete shutdowns.
And let me be clear, I'm a conservative, but I wholeheartedly agree we all need to mask up and stay safe. But there is a line that I think some governors cross.
I am having my Thanksgiving and my Hanukkah with just those closest to me - those already living with me. I will cheerfully sacrifice a massive celebration so my diabetic son does not get compromised because someone puts economy above people's health.
And, although I am a bleeding heart, Bernie bro, big city, elitist, social-democratic Liberal, I only have a big problem with those who refuse wearing masks or following social distancing rules, or those who insist on piling into uncontrolled public events, or those who proclaim that COVID is a hoax and/or it is not dangerous to one's health.
I also get annoyed when people say "hey, no student athletes died from COVID". Right, but they are just as likely to pass it on to those who could. And, by the way, the worst thing imaginable, to our economy, is deaths of hundreds of thousands of consumers. A consumer-based economy, such as ours, is only as strong as the health of the consumers. We can flood our economy with millions of tons of newly-printed paper dollars, so the quarantined people and small businesses can pay the bills, but we can NOT mint new consumers.
