That’s funny. So the big bad rolling-in-dough P5 school down in Lubbock doesn’t want a new D1 upstart competing with it for the affections of the people of Amariillo? I think for that reason alone I’d love to see the WAC add West Texas.

The main rumor that had people concerned about Eastern Washington was a rumor of budget cuts to be leveled by the state that would theoretically protect UW and WSU at the expense of the directionals. That hasn’t really manifested... yet.

Oregon doesn’t do jack to support Portland State or our own directionals. In another state, a school like Southern Oregon wouldn’t be stuck in NAIA and might be discussion material in someone’s realignment scenario. Think Nike when I tell you that this is not an accident. At least schools in Oregon have gained a measure of autonomy over the last few years, but that comes with a few more resource cuts.

And think of Alabama-Birmingham for a bit.

Just saying that this is hardly a recent phenomenon.

I don't know Oregon's college funding issues, but I'm thinking SOU's 5059 enrollment for this past fall as being an issue as to why they are "stuck" in NAIA. Looks like they had a peak of 6800 students in the past decade.
