How do you know that? What recent news articles have stated the new WAC is looking to be FBS? That’s years down the line. Dixie State and Tarleton aren’t ready for FBS. Who was the last FBS team to play in D2?

I think people are getting way over their skis on the question of FBS football in the WAC. The immediate goals of the Texas 4 and SUU joining the WAC are getting into a less crowded FCS Conference, and a good Olympic sports conference with very good markets.

If all that turns out well, then maybe the conference looks at FBS football and all the complications of pulling that move off. The FBS schools or really, the P5 schools, will not break away unless conferences start moving up from FCS and cutting into their profit. Who knows if that is one conference or two. I am not a lawyer and I don't know if the WAC has some special status or grandfather clause to get back to FBS football. But that is 3-4 years away, as the current playoff contract runs through 2025. The WAC needs to become an FCS conference first.

The G5 is not cutting into the P5 profits. The P5 control everything and keep the G5 out at all costs. They already have every reason to want to break away and it is currently being openly discussed.

It has been posted on here numerous times and our AD has openly spoken about, in his Ask the AD interviews, the fact that the WAC owns an FBS charter that they can fire up at any time.

The pandemic also opened their minds that the other schools in D1 are needed for all sports. All the P5 schools got financially hit with a lot of games being canceled or postponed in all sports.
