Seattle U has more status in the academic world than any of the schools IT mentions as Tarleton’s aspirational peers. Seattle U is one of the leaders among Doctoral Professional Degree universities, well ahead of UTEP and UTSA. Tarleton meanwhile languishes in the middle ranks of regional colleges (USNWR).

Ok, now back to athletics.....

Yes, Tarleton is a Regional University, right there with half the WAC and SLC, including our BFF ACU. Our goal is to change that. Never tried or even want to make this an academic discussion, just pointing out its important to Tarleton, and raising our academic profile will be the ultimate deciding factor on how we move forward. Actually, academics are one of the main reasons we're in the WAC instead of the SLC. WAC has National Universities such as NMSU and SU in it. SLC has...Louisiana schools.

And as far as athletics...over the next few years, I don't think anyone will be able to question Tarleton's commitment to athletics. In fact, we're laying out a 10-year plan to invest heavily in D1 athletics to help elevate our academic prospects. The expectations are FBS after transition, no doubt about it.

The SLC has a few universities classed as National Universities. They include Incarnate Word, Lamar, New Orleans, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Three of those would be in the WAC if the "Texas 4" make the move. 04-cheers

While ACU is a “regional school” (which means we don’t offer enough doctoral degrees to be considered a “national” university), we are a very good regional school, as reflected in our regional USNWR ranking.

None of this has anything to do with our decision to stay or go. If we leave for the WAC it won’t be based on superior academics. It will be grounded in our prospects for athletics in one conference vs the other.

Tarleton State tied for 64th in the same region as #15/ACU. But laugh away.
