So my larger questions are, what the f*** happened? Obviously I can read about Fedora leaving and the bad coaching hire and 12-2 to 0-12. But was it really just a bad coach? Did something else happen internally around the same time period and the bad year was an additional catalyst? How the hell did you guys get to this point in a decade?

The 2nd bad hire is what has us here today. 3 years after Johnson left, Monken had us at 9-3 and back in the conference championship game. We then farted that away with another “aw, shucks” homer instead of bringing up the next trendy assistant to win a bunch of games before he leaves in a few years. The difference between Johnson and Hopson is Johnson’s flaws went straight to a full boil whereas Hopson’s simmered for 3+ years before coming to a boil in the middle of last season. Now the pot’s boiling over.

We have other issues, too. Our finances blow chunks, but that’s always been the case. Conference realignment has successively lowered our profile, but we’re in the same league Monken recruited in, and as you well know, conference isn’t destiny.

It really is all about who’s at the helm at our level. Every hire can make or break you.

That's about as well put as it gets. I would add that our AD situation during these times didn't help as well as our president being mediocre at best.
