with a few more months of understanding the virus and how to contain it in both athletics and the college environment, sports will be a lot safer. beyond the community spread reality there is a lot unknown about long term lung, heart and organ complications experienced by those who survive the virus. these may affect healthy 20 year old somewhat less than middle aged patients but are still prevalent and if you can avoid long term health problems for a few of your players it's probably best to wait a few months before beginning the season. imo, MAC did the right thing. hopefully, they are creative with the off season season and can make it exciting for fans and players when play resumes.
