From my standpoint, this threshold is far from met - - and in fact the balance is becoming more and more clear that the lockdowns have done next to nothing to control the virus but have resulted in untold amounts of consequential damage. Specific to Giles’ comment, the death of a football from covid is most sad. But it says little-to-nothing about the merits of canceling ODU’s season. It is a false play for emotion.

Again, my own stance is that athletics are subordinate to the overall running of the university. None of us have enough information at this point for making a definitive statement yet (and likely not for another year or more) whether shutting down the university. If you require a scapegoat to blame, direct your bile at Red China, which allowed this nasty virus to surface at their disgusting “wet markets” and then proceeded to lie about it to the world.

And at our leaders who downplayed the threat in December/January until it was too late even though everyone knew it would eventually come.
