Others here have said it but my take is he did this knowing that heads would be exploding on the left. Sadly, some GOP voters had the same reaction. But he anticipates their response and yanks that string, knowing what is coming. Then he grins - "do I know them or what?"

Trump knows that he doesn't have the power to do this but put it out there to get a reaction. With the left writing columns lately about what if DT loses and refuses to leave, he knows that this will blow up and show once again how looney they are. He gets the left time and time again to show how unhinged from reality they are. This is just another example of him throwing chum in the water, knowing that they can't resist.
