Both teams are worthless if you already have Texas/Oklahoma. Either you get the 2nd choice Oklahoma team or the 3rd choice Texas team, you get the irrelevant Stillwater market or the irrelevant Lubbock market. If the SEC wants a third Texas team, take Houston. At least they add a relevant market. Houston might still be the 3rd choice in Houston but at least SEC teams would actually play in the city. Would you rather play in Houston or Lubbock?

Agreed, but if you have Texas at the negotiation table and they are pushing for TTU I’d take that deal. You’re also presuming that Oklahoma is available—they could be part of the Big Ten by the time we are asking these questions.

Houston is a better market than Lubbock but the Horns have no affinity for the Cougars. I think there was some legitimate concern out of Austin that a big city school might develop into a recruiting threat. I think that was a big part of why they weren’t in the conversation when the Big 12 formed.
