I'm going on what I was taught in courses that were unbearably boring for an ungodly number of hours. I don't trust the media nor Twitter

I did. I wasn't saying YOU were referencing twitter, I was literally saying "the world has gone crazy" in part because "people started trusting social media for news". That isn't a shot at you.

I trust what I had to learn because it was life or death for me and my crews...
The BS being passed on as "science" about masks for this virus is just that, BS... The biggest clue that they don't really work to me was when the government came out with the statement "Masks don't prevent you from getting the virus, it prevents you from passing the virus on to others."
You just shot down your own argument. If EVERYONE wears a mask, and if masks prevent you from passing it on to others, guess what?
You have reading comprehension problems. That's the lie that the government folks are telling you, as was demonstrated in the part of the quote you left off:
Quote:The biggest clue that they don't really work to me was when the government came out with the statement "Masks don't prevent you from getting the virus, it prevents you from passing the virus on to others." Unless you are making your mask out of something like Gore Tex that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever because the protective barrier would be more effective on the receiving end due to the fact that inhalation is always going to be a lower pressure than exhalation.
Now either you are incapable of understanding basic English or you are an outright liar trying to creatively edit my words to make you point. Which is it?
Kap, I get what you're saying about air pressure, particle size, all that... However, there remains consistent statistical evidence that places where masks are mandatory have much lower transmission rates than places which don't require masks. At the end of the day, you are what your record says you are - and the record says masks are working regardless of whether it makes sense or not. My thought is if it works, use it.
You didn't answer my question.
I do not have reading comprehension problems, and I am not a liar. You worded the question in a leading way, so I chose not to step into that trap.
You keep trying to focus the conversation on a one-sided argument about what constitutes a mask capable of protecting the wearer in the absence of any other protective measures. In that scenario, I truly believe you know what you are talking about - no issue there - but that is NOT the final word. The "government" is not lying about masks, for 2 reasons: (1) there is no single voice of the government on this issue; some are saying we need to wear masks, some are not; (2) the fact is, there is plenty of evidence that masks DO provide about 80% protection - I don't pretend to know the mechanism by which this happens, I just know statistics. Perhaps the masks you advocate are 95% effective - GREAT! - but if ordinary cloth masks get you 80% of the way, and it's possible for everyone to wear one, why wouldn't we do that?
So in recap, I'm NOT disagreeing with you about what to wear if you are the only person in the room wearing a mask; I'm talking about the case where every single person is wearing a mask that covers their mouth and nose.
