It shouldn't take catching a two-time felon with a history of violence and threats of murder, plus whatever it was that got him the firearms rap on a taillight charge. That essentially implies that had he taken better care of his car, you might be dead. We need better tools than 'getting lucky'.

I guess I need to clarify the details a bit.

The cops suspected him of running a meth lab, so the stop was "arranged". I bet the tail lights were fine, but they wanted a reason to search the trunk. Found enough to hold him. Came to my ex, an honest and naive person, and asked to search the place, and she granted permission. Found a lot of guns, which were illegal for him to possess, as one of his convictions was for an armed robbery which involved a shoot out with police. (why was he out? That's another story) The meth charge was forgotten, as the federal firearms charge was greater and easier to prove. he got 15 years, served almost all.

I could write a book on this period of my life, but if you want more details, PM me.

Epilogue: He and my ex divorced while he was in prison, his option. He found someone younger, prettier, and richer. The ex and I remain on friendly terms.
