In my proposed restructuring of the National Guard, the Guard would take over those functions, kind of like the Carabinieri in Italy or the Gendarmerie in France. They would also take over any duties that the military cannot do per posse comitatus. They would be a civil defense and disaster response agency, with any military duties a far back in the pack collateral duty.

Sounds good to me. I wonder how long until we get National Guard Brutality protests and allegation of systemic racism in the Guard.
