Whether you blame Trump or not, the US has been an abject failure on Covid relative to other developed countries. It's up to you to decide who to blame for that. This graph says it all:

If you are going to cite number of cases as your measure of abject failure, then you must consider mortality rate per number of cases. Here is the Statista chart for that - (Hint - you may have to go through several pages to find the US rate.)
