You show them a 4.0 from a community college vs. a top tier DI institution, they will weigh that in the consideration of the application. No doubt about it.

Well, if an applicant is going from a community college to Med School, they're not getting in, I'll give you that 03-lmfao

And if a poster on this board isn't keeping up on the latest trends in higher education they'll probably render an uninformed opinion 03-lmfao

Oh believe me, I know all about that, as I'm our College's institutional liaison for all on-boarding students from Owens Community College. Here I was, thinking we were speaking about the present, not 10-15 years down the road....then again, most of your posts on here are stuck in 1997, so I'm not quite sure what time travel device to use in order to frame the vast majority of what you say.

Ummm...that would be...the present!!!

They're filling a hole left by the For-Profits that fell to pieces after the student debt crisis hit a head and killed their cash flow. None of the "degrees" offered at the moment would be acceptable for entry into a professional program at an accredited institution, mainly because none of those degrees are accredited in themselves. My initial comment did not say that degrees from CCs didnt exist, just that they were not applicable to the hypothetical scenario you laid out.

To bring actual fact back into the equation, rather than relying on Google to try to pick a fight...I spoke to the chair of the Admissions Review Committee for UTMC this morning as he is connected to a research proposal a few colleagues in the College of Engineering and I are writing. They have a specific calculate criteria for initial admission that I cannot give out publicly, but I'd gladly PM you the details if you're interested.

The Cliffnotes version is essentially this: only 10% of the "Academic Profile" section of their review (itself, only 25% of the assessment criteria) has ANYTHING to do with Academic Rigor, and in their words, "Rigor can mean a whole lot, the way we've built it out effectively strips the 'name' from determination and looks at courses, performance, progressive growth of a student, and any connected research, publications, or projects a student may have carried out as a part of their academic career. Now could that last bit be more readily available at a "bigger" or "better" school...sure...but the school itself doesnt matter to us anymore, just the substance of the applicant. We used to make a big stink about "name" before the merger [my note, UTMC used to be The Medical College of Ohio before it was acquired in the late 00's] because that was a State "suggestion," but we ended up with a lot of headstrong and not well rounded or motivated candidates who ended up making terrible post-academic representatives of the field. Since we made the switch to holistic approaches and cutting out the "prestige" portion entirely, our Intern and Resident reviews from placements have gotten significantly better, academic performace has consistently improved, and we've had much fewer faculty-student conflicts...but tell that guy there are still schools who do it, not many, and not the ones he'd want his sone or daughter going to if they want to work in patient care. I think what you said makes a whole lot more sense, and my remaining balance at Age 45 would agree."

I'd make a crude joke about what orifice that mic should end up in, but I'm good with just moving on.
