And private colleges wirh small endowments will have no choice to open or face permanent closure. They are businesses and just like your barber, or salon for you metrosexuals, they need lots of customers to stay afloat.

Ummm, Oberlin's endowment is 900M for a school with a 3K enrollment. On a per student basis, their endowment is far larger than ours...and even OSU's. They'll be fine. They and Kenyon (500M for an enrollment of 1600) are truly elite national liberal arts colleges. Comparing them to Xavier is apples to oranges.

Great, great post. The schools that are in deep trouble are the privates with small endowments that only draw regionally - Cedarville, Defiance, Lake Erie, Bluffton, Rio Grande, etc. - and public 4-year institutions (Wright State) who have already been facing financial challenges.
